Job Description:
Jaws Estates Capital (“Jaws”) is the family office of Barry Sternlicht, founder of Starwood Capital Group and Starwood Hotels. Jaws is primarily focused on alternative investments including venture capital, growth equity, private equity, hedge funds, and opportunistic public investments. In addition to significant direct investment activities, Jaws is actively involved in the selection and management of a portfolio of third-party fund commitments, as well as ad-hoc strategic projects on behalf of the family. The investment team also works closely with Jaws’ operations and finance teams to provide periodic portfolio updates to the family.
Jaws is currently seeking an Associate to join its team, with a primary focus on direct investments across venture capital, growth equity, and private equity. In addition to private investments, this individual will selectively cover certain public investments and help in the underwriting process for potential new positions. This individual will work closely with the broader investment team to support diligence, deal execution, portfolio management, and ad-hoc strategic projects across the family office. The role requires strong investment judgment, analytical rigor, attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative diligence into clear recommendations. This role will be based in New York, with periodic travel to Miami and additional business travel as part of the individual’s broader responsibilities.
Experience
Relevant Experience and Skills:
- Strong undergraduate academic record
- 2–4 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, growth equity, venture capital, asset management, hedge funds, corporate development, management consulting, or a similar investment-oriented role
- Prior experience evaluating operating companies, conducting due diligence, and preparing investment memos
- Familiarity with venture capital, growth equity, private equity, and public market investing
Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including financial modeling, valuation, and company analysis
- Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative diligence into clear investment recommendations
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation development skills
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
