Valuations Analyst – Private Equity
Position Overview
Our client, a highly-regarded private equity firm based in Chicago, is seeking an analytical, hands-on Valuations Analyst for its Finance & Operations team. This role owns the quarterly valuation process for private equity investments and financial assets, involves building rigorous models, ensuring data integrity, and assisting with the implementation of a portfolio data platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform end-to-end quarterly valuations for private equity investments and alternative financial assets in compliance with ASC 820 and firm policy.
- Build, maintain, and refine valuation and financial models to assess portfolio company fair value.
- Prepare quarterly valuation memos, supporting exhibits, and materials for Valuation Committee review.
- Partner directly with investment professionals to understand portfolio company performance and inform fair value conclusions.
- Work cross-functionally with accounting, compliance, and investor relations teams.
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing management of Chronograph, focusing on data integrity, analytics, and onboarding new investments.
- Support audit processes and directly respond to auditor inquiries regarding valuation matters.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on valuation experience at an investment bank, buy-side investment manager, or dedicated valuation firm.
- Proven ability to build and defend complex valuation models in Microsoft Excel, with a working knowledge of ASC 820 fair value standards.
- Familiarity with financial data platforms like Capital IQ, Bloomberg, or similar systems.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to explain valuation conclusions clearly in writing and conversation.
Preferred
- Prior experience in a private equity or alternative asset management environment.
- Experience with alternative asset valuations, such as litigation finance, music royalties, or structured insurance vehicles.
- Proficiency with Chronograph or similar portfolio management and analytics platforms.
- CFA designation, or progress towards CFA, ASA, or ABV certification.
