Job Description:
The Compliance Associate will be responsible for assisting in daily trade surveillance and help to increase effectiveness and sophistication of the Surveillance Program.
Specific Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of and also be responsible for the following job details:
- Ensure that exceptions identified during compliance surveillance and reviews, are performed in a timely and effective manner, and appropriately addressed and escalated.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations necessary to ensure the firm's compliance with FINRA, MSRB, SEC, and NYSE as well as all other applicable rules, regulations, regulatory/industry guidance and best practices affecting broker dealers.
- An understanding of the US equity and Fixed Income markets, including relevant current and proposed industry and regulatory developments. Knowledge of the rules governing Reg BI/suitability. In addition, the candidate should be familiar with the US rules governing general compliance (e.g., outside business activities, continuing education, WebCRD)
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices, standards and requirements as it relates to the compliance risk and communicate this information to the business and throughout the Compliance function.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Willing to be taking the FINRA registrations, SIE and series 7.
- Relevant compliance experience, preferably at a major international securities firm or bank.
- Experience in providing regulatory or compliance advice in domestic and international markets is essential.
- Language skills – Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish.
- Basic knowledge of AML rules and requirements.
- Technically proficient in the use of Power Point and Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to make, support and defend difficult and complex regulatory/compliance decisions in a fast-paced and high-pressured environment.
- Sets priorities and makes day-to-day decisions independently.
- General business analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Extremely strong organizational skills, with the ability to understand the detail but also able to take a big picture approach.
- Ability to influence and demonstrate confidence when interfacing with salespersons and traders.
- Intuitive, energetic, and self-motivated.
