Selby Jennings is representing a Los Angeles-based, value oriented lower middle market private equity firm who is looking to expand at the Associate level. The associate will play a critical, hands‑on role across the full investment lifecycle at a value‑oriented lower middle market private equity firm focused on industrial services, niche manufacturing, transportation/logistics, industrial tech., and specialty distribution businesses. This role offers direct exposure to platform acquisitions, add‑on execution, and operationally driven value creation, with close collaboration alongside senior investors and a dedicated in‑house operating team from diligence through exit.
Key Responsibilities
- Support end‑to‑end investment execution, including sourcing, diligence, financial modeling, investment committee materials, and transaction closing
- Build and analyze three‑statement operating models, LBO models, and scenario analyses to evaluate complex investment opportunities
- Conduct commercial, financial, and operational diligence, working closely with management teams, third‑party advisors, and operating partners
- Play an active role in add‑on acquisitions and roll‑up strategies, including target evaluation, integration planning, and post‑close execution
- Engage meaningfully with portfolio companies post‑investment, supporting operational initiatives, strategic planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring
- Collaborate closely with senior investment professionals and the internal operating team to drive hands‑on value creation throughout the ownership period
Qualifications
- 1.5-3 years of experience in investment banking or private equity (Straight from undergraduate school)
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills with a solid understanding of LBO mechanics and operating businesses
- Demonstrated interest in operationally oriented investing and working with complex, transformation‑driven companies
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to take ownership in a lean, high‑responsibility environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with senior investors, management teams, and external advisors
