Private Equity Associate – Consumer & Business Services
Location: Washington, DC (in-office role with some flexibility subject to firm policies)

Position – Private Equity Associate
We are seeking a Private Equity Associate to join our Washington, DC office. As an associate, you will be an integral member of small, entrepreneurial deal teams and will work across the full investment lifecycle - from sourcing and evaluation through execution and portfolio value creation.
This is a high-responsibility, high-visibility role with meaningful exposure to senior investment professionals, management teams, operating advisors, and external partners.
Responsibilities:
Deal evaluation & execution
- Analyze potential investments through detailed financial modeling, valuation, and scenario analysis.
- Conduct company- and industry-specific research, including competitive dynamics, market sizing, and identification of key value-creation levers.
- Support all aspects of the due diligence process (financial, commercial, operational, legal, regulatory, IT, HR, etc.), coordinating workstreams with management teams and third-party advisors.
- Assist in structuring and negotiating transaction terms and legal documentation.
Portfolio value creation & monitoring
- Support portfolio company initiatives through data-driven analysis, KPI development, and performance tracking.
- Prepare materials for internal portfolio reviews, board meetings, and value-creation discussions.
- Monitor financial and operational performance, helping identify risks, opportunities, and potential add-on acquisitions.
Firm-building & cross-portfolio initiatives
- Develop and prepare investment memoranda, presentations, and other materials used for internal decision-making, LP communications, and fundraising.
- Help maintain internal databases, deal CRM systems, and other firm infrastructure.
- Contribute to cross-portfolio value creation initiatives, including preparation and analysis for JCP’s Executive Roundtables (Sales & Marketing, HR & Talent, Finance, Tariffs / Operations) and select digital / AI-related projects across the portfolio.
- Support ad hoc strategic projects and internal initiatives in a lean, collaborative environment.
Skills & Experience
Required
- Experience:
- 2–5 years of full-time work experience in private equity, private credit/debt, or investment banking at a leading firm.
- Prior buy-side experience (private equity or private credit) is strongly preferred, but exceptional candidates with top-tier investment banking experience are encouraged to apply.
- Education:
- Undergraduate degree from a leading institution with a strong record of academic achievement (GPA 3.5+ or equivalent preferred).
- Technical skills:
- Advanced finance and analytical skills, including building and auditing complex financial models.
- High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with CRM or deal-tracking systems is a plus.
- Communication & presence:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise outputs.
- Professional presence and comfort engaging with senior executives, management teams, and advisors.
- Work style & mindset:
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced, lean environment.
- Proactive self-starter who takes ownership, anticipates needs, and pushes projects forward without heavy oversight.
- Commercially minded, intellectually curious, and excited about investing, business building, and the consumer / services sectors.
- Team-oriented and coachable, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and contribute wherever needed.
Additional nice-to-haves
- Experience managing aspects of transaction due diligence and legal documentation.
- Exposure to portfolio monitoring, value-creation projects, or operational improvement initiatives.
- Prior work with consumer or business services companies (e.g., CPG, health & wellness, sports / entertainment, multi-site services).
